Newmarket JKR Computers Major Mosquito AA Rep Hawks win Bolton tournament
2015-07-14
Congratulations to Newmarket Major Mosquito AA Rep for a successful weekend in Bolton taking the Championship title!!
The Newmarket JKR Computers Major Mosquito AA Rep Hawks are 2-for-2 in tournaments this season as they captured the Bolton AA championship on the weekend of July 10-12 following their Niagara Falls AA title in June.
There was lots of drama under the lights on Friday night in their first round-robin game vs. Bloordale: down 5-2 early and 7-4 late, the Hawks rallied for a walk-off 8-7 win on a clutch 2-run RBI single by Noah R. In their second round-robin game, the Hawks then lost 8-7 in a see-saw affair vs. YSBA rival Barrie. And in a must-win third round-robin game, the Hawks bats got hot as they defeated Brampton 13-3.
The “Cardiac Kids” were at it again in the semi-finals. Facing an undefeated Mississauga team, the Hawks were down 4-0 but rallied for six runs in the top of the 5th en route to a 9-5 win. And in their rematch against Barrie in the championship final the game was scoreless through three innings; the Hawks then clung to a 2-0 lead after five innings before winning 7-2.
After the trophy presentation, Head Coach Dave Repath complimented the team on their resiliency and never-quit attitude. Coach Dave also recognized how each and every player contributed to the team’s success on the diamond, including stellar pitching and defense, key hits and unselfish at-bats, and smart decision-making.
And Bolton appears to be a favourite location for these Hawks as this tournament marked a threepeat of sorts: this team also won this tournament in their Major Rookie and Minor Mosquito seasons. (It was a fourpeat for Carter C, Keegan M, and Tyler R as they also won this tournament as underagers on the Major Rookie roster.)
Congratulations to Kade, Tyler, Scotty, Keegan, Adam, Kade, Graham, Matthew, Michael, Carter, Jensen, and Noah, and to Coaches Rob, Kevin, Dave, Gerard, and Jamie for a great tournament.
