Newmarket Juniors win Interlock Season!

2009-08-28

Bottom of the 9th, yes-the 9th, with the score tied 2-2, Rowan Hardwood Floors (Newmarket), the home team, had runners on 2nd & 3rd with one runner out. (see full story)

First pitch to Matt Cullum was hit over the Georgina pitcher's head into centre field bringing in Michael Winters for the winning run 3-2 for Newmarket. Up to that point it had been strictly a pitchers duel as both teams used only two pitchers for the night. First Georgina scored early in the game 1-0. Newmarket tied it but Georgina went ahead 2-1. Newmarket tied it again 2-2 mid-way through the game. Both teams had runners on third, the potential winning run, but Georgina's third out on a pop fly to deep centre field ended the threat. Newmarket also had a runner on third but a slow hit to the short stop who returned it to the catcher tagged out the sliding runner at home plate. This left the game 2-2 and set the stage for the 9th inning performance.
