Opening Day
2008-05-10
Opening Day for the T-Ball to Peewee Divisions on Saturday, May 10 was a great success! The weather was beautiful and hundreds of players marched behind the Newmarket Colour Guard and Newmarket Citizen's Band from the Community Centre to McKnight Diamond at the Fairgrounds.
Howard Brown, VP Equipment and emcee welcomed the crowd. MPP for Newmarket/Aurora Mr. Frank Klees welcomed the players and spoke about the Trillium Grant for the new batting cage. Newmarket Mayor Tony Van Bynen threw the opening pitch to Don McKnight, President of the Ontario Baseball Association and life member of the Newmarket Baseball Association. Regional Councillor John Taylor, and Councillors Victor Woodhouse and Dave Kerwin were also in attendance. Tim Brown, President of Newmarket Baseball thanked all the Association volunteers, coaches and players. The Boston Pizza Mascot Lionel entertained the young players.
