The '08 Hawks won twice on the weekend, 15-9 over East York and 11-6 over Leaside #3 to move to 7 and 0 on the season

NEWMARKET - The SaleEvent.ca Minor Rookie Hawks played 2 games on the weekend, defeating the East York Bulldogs 15-9 and the Leaside #3 Leafs 11-6, running their record to a perfect 7 wins and 0 losses.

"Yeah, well, everybody is pretty pleased with the way the season has been going so far," said Coach Tim early on Monday morning.  "The boys are all trying their best and there's been a lot of development already."

Minor Rookie Hawksbeat reached an anonymous female source in Bradford for her thoughts on the season so far.

"Okay, sure, it's nice to be winning, but we could be winning by a lot more.  I mean, Coach Tim keeps letting his foot off the other team's throats.  Let's crush them for once!  Let's go for the 3-inning Mercy Rule every time!  There's something to be said for breaking the other team's spirit," said the anonymous female source with multiple children hanging onto her legs.  "I mean, I don't want to see the other team's kids cry.  Well, not much, but a little..."

"True, we could be winning by more runs, but I try to keep in mind that there's 24 kids out there and 24 sets of parents, not just our 12.  I think the other coaches appreciate that.  Plus, the regular season allows us a chance to develop players at positions they won't get to play during tournaments or playoffs," Coach Tim said in response to his imaginary conversation with the anonymous female source in Bradford.  "And flipping the batting order upside-down when the opportunity presents itself makes all the kids feel good."

The Leaside game was highlighted by an error-aided Grand Slam from Cameron, who also made a highlight reel catch to end the game in left field.

"That was a nice catch that Cameron made.  It's his second big catch in the outfield this season.  He made a catch in right in our tournament that really saved the game for us," Coach Tim said afterwards.

The '08 Hawks practice Monday night in preparation for their away game against the Stouffville Yankees on Wednesday evening.  Good seats are still available.
