The York Simcoe Baseball Association promotes baseball participation in 15 local baseball associations, including the Newmarket Baseball Association, across York Region.  It is now the largest baseball association in Ontario, recently surpassing the Central Ontario Baseball Association in total active registration.  At the YSBA Annual General Meeting and Awards Ceremony on Oct. 25, several 2015 Hawks followed in the footsteps of 2014 YSBA Coach of the Year Dave Repath (2014 Minor Mosquito AA Hawks) and won the following awards:

2015 REP TEAM OF THE YEAR: NEWMARKET PEEWEE AAA HAWKS
Highlights: The Peewee AAA Hawks won the Baseball Ontario Peewee Elimination tournament in Windsor and then represented Ontario at the Baseball Canada 13U National Championships in Repentigny, Quebec (where they finished 5th), especially impressive given Newmarket’s population compared to bigger AAA centres.  The team also won the oldest Peewee tournament in Ontario, the prestigious 59th Annual Lions CNE Tournament, and the Cambridge Peewee World Series.  They were undefeated (3-0) in the Vaughan AAA tournament before it was rained out. The team finished the season with an overall 41-14-4 record.

2015 REP PITCHER OF THE YEAR (PEEWEE AND BELOW): BRADY WAGENHOFFER
Highlights: Brady was a member of the 2015 Peewee AAA Hawks team, pitching, catching, and playing shortstop. He was the team’s starting pitcher in several key tournament games against the top teams in the country including wins against North York, Brampton, Mississauga North, Etobicoke, and London (which was a complete game shutout at the Elims!).  The team tournament record was 29-9-1; Brady's pitching record in tournament games was 10-1.  At the Nationals, Brady was game MVP vs. Team Atlantic for his starting pitching performance. At the CNE Tournament, he won the Sam Shefsky/Blue Jays Trophy as the top pitcher there.

2015 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD: ROB HUMS
Highlights: Rob was an Assistant Coach and the General Manager of the 2015 Peewee AAA Hawks team and has served as the NBA’s VP-Finance for two years.  In 2015, Rob led the 40th Annual Silver Bat Mosquito Rep Tournament organizing committee, was director of the Town of Newmarket/NBA Summer Academy day camp, and convened the annual Town of Newmarket Canada Day Festival Junior Rookie House League Tournament.

Several Hawks were also finalists in their respective categories:

  • House League Coach of the Year (Peewee and below): Chris Williams
  • House League Coach of the Year (Peewee and below): Steve Benzanson
  • Rep Player of the Year (Peewee and below): Bradley Edwards, Newmarket Peewee AAA Hawks
  • Rep Coach of the Year (Peewee and below): Doug Lunney, Newmarket Peewee AAA Hawks
